Dear colleagues, This months newsletter on IT @ Bioquant deals with the following topics: Cluster News Software New colleague in IT Cluster News During the last couple of months the biggest change has been the introduction of two large machines into the Bioquant Cluster. Each machine has 8 Quad Core Processors and 256GB of memory. Jobs can be submitted to those machines by requesting the appropriate resources in the PBS script or the command line e.g. qsub -l nodes=1:mem=50gb pbs_script.sh This example shows a request for one node with 50GB of memory to the server. In the case that the requested resources are unavailable at the time, the job will be queued and executed as soon as the resources are available again. In the near future we will announce a date for a cluster users meeting. We will take the opportunity to inform interested users about the available hardware and software on the cluster and give an introduction in the cluster usage. Also at this time we will outline the next changes in the inhouse computing infrastructure. Proposed topics for discussion can be sent to bq-cluster@bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de For more details on the cluster, check out our IT website at: http://www.bioquant.uni-heidelberg.de/about-us/organigram/it/it-services/compute-cluster.html Software Mathematica 7 is now available on appl1 and via SSGD. New colleague in IT We are very happy that a new colleague joined our IT group at BioQuant on November 1, 2009. Melinda Feucht is located also in room 062 (at my former desk). I moved to a new office on the first floor, room 144.
