Junior Research Group Leader Receives KlarText Award

Dominik Niopek receives Klaus Tschira Award for Achievements in Public Understanding of Sciences – KlarText

Dominik Niopek, Junior Research Leader at the BioQuant Center and member of Prof. Eils' Synthetic Biology Lab, received the 2017 Klaus Tschira Award for Achievements in Public Understanding of Sciences – KlarText.

He was honoured for his article "Zellen steuern mit Licht – und Liebe" ("How to Control Cells With Light - and Love"), in which he explains a new method to control genetic switches in mammalian cells by using light. This technology presents a completely new approach to study the dynamic movement of proteins and to control them precisely.

Scientists are provided with a completely new instrument to research cellular and disease-related processes.
