Project: A multi-scale model for analyzing host-pathogen interactions on a single-cell level


In my work, I am interested in determining virus-host interactions that determine the clearance of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) infection in murine salivary glands. Therefore, I am developing a multi-scale model that describes the infection dynamics at multiple levels. The simulation environment Morpheus (https://morpheus.gitlab.io) is used to integrate intracellular viral replication and cytokine production described by ordinary differential equations (ODEs), with cell motility and proliferation dynamics determined by a cellular Potts model, and intercellular virus and cytokine spread using reaction-diffusion systems. The model will be used to analyze MCMV infection dynamics in mice combining single-cell imaging and cell population dynamics data.
