Martha Carolina Elizondo-Cantú won the Best Talk Award at the International BACELL Meeting

Martha Carolina Elizondo-Cantú won the Best Talk Award at the International BACELL Meeting. BACELL is an European organization for the research on the Gram-positive model bacterium Bacillus subtilis and other Bacillus species. This year’s annual meeting was hosted by the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences in Amsterdam. Carolina presented recent results from a joint interdisciplinary research project on “Form-function relationships in Bacillus subtilis fruiting body formation”. This tandem project is headed by two principal investigators of the BioQuant Ilka Bischofs and Karl Rohr and also receives technical support from the Nikon Imaging Center and the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research. The research is funded by the DFG in the framework of the National Priority Programme “Emergent Functions of Bacterial Multicellularity (SPP2389)”. Carolina, originally from Mexico is a graduate of the BioQuant’s Systems Biology Master program, she is the Vice-Head of the German Association for Synthetic Biology and a long-term member of the iGEM community, currently as EMEA Regional Head at iGEM Startups.  She has recently submitted her doctoral thesis and is looking forward to graduation and joining a Bacillus research group in the Netherlands for her postdoc.  Congratulations!
