Health Data Science Unit
Prof. Dr. Roland Eils
We provide medical informatics solutions to make patient data accessible for clinical research and education.
We specialize in merging clinical and research data for cancer, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases. We develop machine learning prognostic models for disease outcomes and investigate COVID-19 pathophysiology using single-cell RNA sequencing. Eils coordinates the HiGHmed consortium, connecting over 10 German university medical centers, within the national medical informatics initiative.
Research Strategy
Roland Eils work at the BioQuant center focuses on integration of data from clinical care and research to tackle a number of clinical use cases in cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infectious diseases. More specifically, we are developing prognostic models based on machine learning for predicting disease outcomes (Bürgel et al. 2022). Further, we have dissected the mechanisms of COVID-19 pathophysiology leading to severe disease outcome using massive single cell RNA sequencing and computational approaches (Chua et al. 2021). All of our activities are embedded with the national medical informatics initiative, where Roland Eils is coordinating the HiGHmed consortium integrating more than 10 university medical centers across Germany (Haarbrandt et al. 2018).
